A place to belong in Blackwood.

A community-run centre where childhood, family life and the neighbourhood have grown together for generations.

Part of the neighbourhood from the beginning.

Blackwood’s story began with community early childhood services in 1989, followed by the centre’s official opening on 17 February 1990.

That history belongs to the families, educators and community members who’ve helped make the centre what it is.

The idea at its heart is a welcoming place where children can learn through play, build relationships and feel comfortable being themselves.

Today, Blackwood Community Child Care Centre offers long day care from birth to school age, with 53 approved places across the centre.

On Brighton Parade, established trees and a generous outdoor play space give everyday childhood room to happen.

It’s a setting for discovering something small, returning to a favourite activity and finding a familiar place in the group.

Have a look around

Families help shape the place.

Blackwood is a not-for-profit incorporated association with community participation at its heart.

A management committee helps guide the centre’s direction, while the director looks after day-to-day operations.

That connection gives families a voice in the place their children come to each day.

Ideas, feedback and practical contributions all have a place in community life, alongside the conversations that happen at drop-off and collection.

Care with a community purpose

Income supports the centre’s operation and the children’s environment, keeping its purpose close to the families it serves.

A voice for families

The committee brings family, educator and community perspectives into decisions about the centre.

Room for your contribution

A suggestion, a shared skill or an interest in a centre project can be a starting point for getting involved.

Participation can grow from the time and interests your family brings.

Every family brings something.

Diversity, inclusion, respect, integrity and relationships are part of the centre’s published values.

For a child, belonging starts in the everyday details: being listened to, having their interests noticed and finding people they can trust.

For a family, it means having space to share the routines, language, culture and experiences that make home feel like home.

The centre’s approach brings those relationships together with hands-on play and respect for each child’s individual development.

You know your child in ways that help educators understand what comforts them, what excites them and what they’re ready to try next.
